Emerging Small-Cap Resources Stocks to Watch This February
Your highlight of small-cap resources stocks for Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Calix Set to Commence Construction at Mid-Stream Demonstration Plant
Calix Limited (CXL) is preparing to restart construction on its Mid-Stream demonstration plant, following the successful award of $15 million in grant funding from the Western Australia government. This joint venture with prominent lithium provider Pilbara Minerals aims to enhance the efficiency of the battery materials supply chain, significantly reducing carbon energy intensity.
The project is on a 10-month timeline, projecting completion and commissioning of the facility within the December 2025 quarter. The plant will utilize Calix’s innovative calcination technology, promoting the production of lithium salts through a more sustainable mid-stream refining process that leverages renewable energy instead of traditional, carbon-heavy rotary kilns.
Progress at Crawford Gold Project
Cavalier Resources (CVR) is making strides towards production at its Crawford gold project. Having submitted all necessary compliance work records, the project management plan is now approved. Currently, the company awaits the final assessments of its native vegetation clearing permit and water applications, both of which are in the concluding stages.
Given the current spot price of gold significantly exceeds the $2,900 per ounce estimate used in its Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) from March 2024, CVR anticipates that stage one of the project will yield considerable free cash flow, potentially exceeding the company’s current market capitalization of $4.28 million.
Expanding Resource Potential at KSB Project
LAT Resources is strategically planning to enhance its resource base at the KSB gold and cobalt project in Finland. The company is opting for cost-effective reverse circulation (RC) drilling aimed at previously identified boulder anomalies at the K6E and K6W prospects. An agreement has been reached with a local contractor to test RC drilling about 1 kilometer south of the existing 7.2Mt resource base.
LAT Managing Director Grant Coyle emphasizes that while RC drilling is less common in Europe, successful trials could yield substantial time and cost savings. This method may also provide the opportunity to efficiently explore various electromagnetic anomalies across the wider project area.
FTL’s Successful Placement Fuels Exploration Plans
This week, Firetail Resources (FTL) raised $3 million through a strongly supported placement from institutional and high-net-worth investors. The funds will primarily support high-impact exploration programs at the Skyline asset in Newfoundland, which includes ground EM surveys targeting priority HeliEM zones and initial drilling of significant targets like the Governor’s and Veyron’s.
Additionally, a portion of the raised funds will be assigned to ongoing exploration within the Pica project in Peru, where a comprehensive gravity survey is set to outline current and future exploration targets. FTL Managing Director Glenn Poole highlights the crucial role of this financial backing in expediting their multifaceted exploration agenda.
RR1’s Drilling Advances at Wabli Creek Project
In a strong finish to 2024, Gascoyne explorer RR1 completed reverse circulation drilling at its Wabli Creek project. The drilling campaign concentrated on three target zones—Pelops, Broteas, and Amphion—within a large alkaline granite formation, yielding encouraging results with total rare earth oxides readings exceeding 1000ppm across most drill holes.
Notably, the presence of valuable magnet rare earth oxides (MREO) including neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, and terbium were confirmed, with some intersections reporting up to 1809ppm of dysprosium and terbium. CEO Jeremy Bower remarked on the promising indications of higher grade MREO, which is beneficial for future exploration efforts.
